If you own an electric vehicle — or are planning to buy one — in the greater Philadelphia region, 2026 is one of the most important years to act on electric vehicle incentives for home charging. Multiple programs from federal, state, and utility sources can be stacked to dramatically reduce your EV charger installation cost. But several of these programs have hard deadlines in 2026, and some have already begun winding down.
Whether you're looking for an EV charger installation near me, planning a Tesla Wall Connector or Rivian Wall Charger install, or simply trying to understand what EV incentives are available in your area, this guide covers everything currently available to homeowners in our service area: Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks, and Delaware Counties in Pennsylvania, and Burlington and Mercer Counties in New Jersey. All information is verified and current as of May 2026.

Federal Incentive: Section 30C Tax Credit
What it is: A federal tax credit worth 30% of your total EV charging station installation cost, including equipment and labor, capped at $1,000 for residential properties. This applies to all qualifying EVSE home installations including hardwired Level 2 chargers, NEMA 14-50 outlets, Tesla Wall Connectors, Rivian Wall Chargers, and NACS chargers.
Deadline: The 30C EV Charger Tax Credit expires June 30, 2026. Your installation must be purchased and completed by that date to qualify. Rebates4evchargers
Key limitations:
Your home must be in an eligible census tract — a qualifying low-income or non-urban area. Most rural and many suburban areas qualify, but eligibility varies by address. Rewiring America
This is a non-refundable credit claimed on IRS Form 8911. It reduces your federal tax bill dollar-for-dollar but cannot be received as a cash refund.
No extension legislation is pending. After June 30, 2026, this credit drops to $0.
Who it applies to: All six counties — Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware, Burlington, and Mercer — subject to census tract eligibility. Charge the Coast verifies your address eligibility during your free consultation.
How to claim: File IRS Form 8911 with your federal tax return for the year your installation is completed.
Pennsylvania Counties: Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks & Delaware
PECO Territory — What's Available
All four Pennsylvania counties in our service area fall within PECO's electric service territory. Here is what PECO currently offers residential customers pursuing home EV charging station installation:
PECO $50 EV Driver Rebate PECO provides a rebate of $50 to residential customers who purchase a new, qualified EV. This is a small incentive but requires no installation work — simply notify PECO that you have purchased an electric vehicle. Apply through PECO's EVsmart website. chargethecoast
PECO Time-of-Use Rate PECO offers a time-of-use lower electricity rate if you charge your vehicle during off-peak hours. This is not a one-time rebate but an ongoing savings mechanism that reduces your monthly electric vehicle charging at home costs over time. Contact PECO directly to enroll after your EV home charger is installed.
NEVI Funding in Southeastern Pennsylvania While not a direct residential rebate, it's worth noting that on February 19, 2026, the Shapiro Administration announced $100 million in federal NEVI funding, with approximately $34 million dedicated to the southeastern region covering Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. This investment in public charging infrastructure is expanding fast charging access throughout our service area. chargethecoast
Important note for Pennsylvania homeowners: Pennsylvania does not currently offer any state-level incentives for the purchase and installation of residential EV charging equipment. The federal 30C credit is the primary EV charger installation cost offset available to PECO customers, making the June 30, 2026 deadline especially important for homeowners in Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks, and Delaware Counties. Pennsylvania DEP Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV) Rebate
This is a state-level rebate for the purchase of an electric car itself — not for EV installer services or charger installation — but it is a significant electric car incentive for homeowners who have recently purchased or are planning to purchase an EV.
What it covers: The Pennsylvania DEP AFV Program offers rebates to assist eligible residents with the cost of the purchase or lease of new or qualifying pre-owned EVs, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and other alternative fuel vehicles. Applicants must meet income eligibility requirements and the eligible vehicle purchase price must not exceed $45,000. Evchargeright
Rebate amounts:
EV (new or pre-owned): $3,000. An additional rebate of $1,000 is available for applicants whose total household income is below 150% of the federal poverty guideline. Evchargeright
PHEV (new or pre-owned): $1,500
Deadline and availability: The Alternative Fuel Vehicle Rebate program is offering approximately 500 rebates from July 1, 2025, until June 30, 2026, or until funding has been depleted. Rebates are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Divineelectricandplumbing

Electrical Panel Upgrades in Pennsylvania
Many Philadelphia-area homes — particularly older rowhomes in Philadelphia County and established neighborhoods in Montgomery, Bucks, and Delaware Counties — require an electrical panel upgrade before a Level 2 EVSE home charger can be safely installed. A panel upgrade ensures your home's electrical system can handle the dedicated 240V circuit required for Level 2 charging without overloading your existing service.
Our in-network electricians perform comprehensive load calculations and provide electrical panel upgrades as part of the installation process. If you're searching for an electrician for electrical panel replacement in the Philadelphia area, our vetted network of licensed contractors handles both the panel work and the EV charger installation in a single coordinated visit, saving you time and money.
Typical panel upgrade costs in Pennsylvania:
100-amp to 200-amp service upgrade: $1,500 – $3,500
Smart electrical panel installation: $2,000 – $4,500
Load calculation and assessment: typically included in installation quote
New Jersey Counties: Burlington & Mercer
Who Is Your Utility?
Burlington and Mercer County homeowners are served by one of two utilities depending on their specific municipality:
PSE&G serves portions of Burlington County near the PSE&G service boundary
JCP&L serves Burlington County (including Cinnaminson, Mount Laurel, Moorestown, Medford, Marlton, Evesham, and others) and most of Mercer County (including Trenton, Princeton, Hamilton, Lawrence Township, and surrounding areas)
Knowing your utility is critical — the EV incentives differ significantly between PSE&G and JCP&L. Charge the Coast identifies your utility and verifies your eligibility during your free consultation.
PSE&G Make-Ready Program (Burlington County — PSE&G Customers)
What it covers: PSE&G's Make-Ready program provides on-bill credits covering up to $1,500 per qualifying residential installation for the cost of make-ready work — the wiring, circuit, and outlet needed to support your home charging station. For homes that also need a pole-to-meter service upgrade, PSE&G offers an additional rebate of up to $5,000 toward that utility-side work. chargethecoast
This program covers the installing a charging station for electric cars preparation work performed by your licensed electrician, whether you are installing a hardwired Level 2 EVSE, a NEMA 14-50 outlet, a Tesla Wall Connector, a Rivian Wall Charger, or a NACS charger.
How it's paid: As a check or bill credit after the installation passes municipal inspection and paperwork is filed.
Key requirements:
Must use a New Jersey-licensed electrician
Charger must be ENERGY STAR certified
Municipal permit and inspection required
The total combined funding of all state, federal, and utility incentives cannot exceed 90% of your total project cost. PSE&G will adjust the Make-Ready credit accordingly if this threshold is reached. chargethecoast
Off-peak credit update: On or about June 1, 2026, the EV Program will discontinue the off-peak charging credit incentive for all customers. As of January 13, 2026, the EV Program is no longer accepting new applicants into the off-peak program. This does not have any effect on the make-ready incentive, which remains fully active. chargethecoast
JCP&L EV Driven Program (Burlington & Mercer Counties — JCP&L Customers)
Critical update — residential program closed: The residential customer make-ready incentives and residential off-peak time-of-use rate credits were closed on June 30, 2025, and will remain closed. JCP&L residential customers can no longer apply for make-ready EV installation rebates. Qmerit
What remains available for JCP&L residential customers:
The federal 30C tax credit (subject to census tract eligibility and June 30, 2026 deadline)
Customers can still apply for the residential Basic Generation Service TOU rate credit, but no credits will be provided beyond July 15, 2026. Energize!
Full program end date: The Jersey Central Power & Light EV Driven Program will close on July 15, 2026, or earlier if funds are fully allocated. After this date, no new applications will be accepted for any program component. Qmerit
Non-residential programs still open: JCP&L still offers significant incentives for commercial, workplace, multifamily, and public charging installations through July 15, 2026, including up to $11,100 in utility make-ready work incentives and up to $6,700 per port in customer make-ready work incentives. If you own a business or rental property in Burlington or Mercer County, contact Charge the Coast to discuss commercial EV charging station installation options before the program closes. Morningstar
A Note on Emerging Technology: Bidirectional Charging
As the home electrification movement accelerates across the Philadelphia region, it's worth noting that bidirectional EV charging — also called vehicle-to-home (V2H) or vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging — is becoming available on select vehicles and smart electrical panel systems. Bidirectional chargers allow your EV battery to power your home during outages or feed energy back to the grid. While not yet widely available as a rebate-eligible installation in our service area, it is an emerging capability worth discussing with your installer when planning your plug-in EV charging solution for the long term.
